After being stopped at a vehicle checkpoint in Billings, I decided to introduce legislation in the 2015 session to address checkpoints and spot checks. My original intent was to severely limit the practice, but I compromised with law enforcement to put sideboards on existing practice.
The bill passed the House but was tabled in a Senate committee, despite support from the Montana Highway Patrol. In 2017, I was able to sponsor and pass this legislation into law.
•Establish when and how roadblocks can be conducted.
